Mary Flower’s immense finger picking guitar and lap-slide prowess is soulful and meter-perfect, a deft blend of the inventive, the dexterous and the mesmerizing. Her supple honey-and-whiskey voice provides the perfect melodic accompaniment to each songs story.
An internationally known and award-winning picker, singer/songwriter and teacher, the Midwest native relocated from Denver to the vibrant Portland, Oregon music scene in in 2004. She continues to please crowds and critics at folk festivals, teaching seminars and concert stages domestically and abroad, that include Merlefest, Kerrville, King Biscuit, Prairie Home Companion and the Vancouver Folk Festival, among many.
A finalist in 2000 and 2002 at the National Finger Picking Guitar Championship, a nominee in 2008, 2012 and 2016 for a Blues Foundation Blues Music Award, and many times a Cascade Blues Assn. Muddy Award winner, Flower embodies a luscious and lusty mix of rootsy, acoustic-blues guitar and vocal styles that span a number of idioms from Piedmont to the Mississippi Delta, with stops in ragtime, swing, folk and hot jazz.
Flower’s 11 recordings, including her four for Memphis famed Yellow Dog Records – Bywater Dance, Instrumental Breakdown, Bridges, and Misery Loves Company show a deep command of and love for folk and blues string music. For Flower, its never about re-creation. Her dedication to the art form is a vital contribution to Americas music.
“Eric’s playing has an indefinable quality that hits you immediately. As a guitar player you may notice how beautiful the playing is and how effortlessly it flows. But if you are just a casual listener, none of this matters because his music is just plain fun to listen to. It does what music is supposed to do. It makes you feel good.”
– Pat Donohue
“When it comes to guitar playing, arranging, and composing, there is no doubt about it, if they send some fingerpicking astronaut on one of those 300 year voyages that only takes ten years out of his life, he will find on his return–if he finds anything at all– that guitarists are still listening to Eric’s music.”
– Duck Baker
National Fingerpicking Champion Eric Lugosch presents a truly original and inspirational show. There are no gimmicks or gadgets – just a genuinely gifted imagination and a fluency that comes from years of working on his craft. Eric’s arrangements of traditional songs and jazz standards are now considered classics in picking circles, where he is also regarded as one of Americas best original fingerstyle composers, as well as a talented songwriter.
Eric has played and taught in festivals around the world including The Wirral International Guitar Festival, The Ullapool Guitar Festival, International Guitar Meeting in Sarzana, Italy, and The New York Guitar Festival. He’s had the honor of performing with greats such as Doc Watson, Taj Mahal, John Prine, and David Bromberg.
