Music has a way of bringing people together in unexpected ways. That is definitely the case for Kathryn Claire and Margot Merah. Growing up on opposite sides of the world, there is a good chance they would never have met. And yet they did in the fall of 2013 in a small Irish pub in Amsterdam. The musical connection was instant. A love for songwriting, traditional music, folk songs and harmony singing not only brought them together: it brought them all over the globe.
When Margot and Kathryn are on the same continent, they love playing together. In their concerts they feature original and traditional songs and instrumentals along with their favorite covers. Guitar, fiddle, ukulele, bodhrán, harmonica and breathtaking vocal harmonies.
With violin and voice at the center of her music, Kathryn Claire weaves together stories and melodies rooted in her classical and traditional musical background while infusing each song and composition with an energy and electricity that is palpable. Her musicality and joy on stage is infectious. Honest and poetic writing, crystalline vocals, impassioned violin compositions, and an ability to move seamlessly across genres, are the hallmark of Kathryn Claire’s original and diverse sound.
“With a delicate and majestic indie rock sound, Kathryn incorporates lush strings with her own noir-ish guitar playing and orchestral arrangements. Lyrically, the song dwells on the grueling pace of life on the road as a touring artist, which Kathryn presents with a classy yet folky sensibility.”

“a dizzying array of emotions traveling on evocative tones ranging from folk-lite to sinewy flavors of alt-rock.”

Margot Merah is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She is a true ‘storyteller’, exactly what the folk tradition is all about. Margot’s music is comforting, hopeful and melancholic. Her songs tell about life, simple and small, with an eye for detail and the bigger picture. Margot sings both traditional – often Celtic – her rich alto brings a depth of personality in both lower and higher regiments. Her direct and open lyrics bring comfort, hope and warmth. For Margot, it’s the story behind the song that counts. Voice, melody and guitar are the instruments she uses to tell these tales and share the emotions within them.
